A big “shout out” to my friends at Northpoint Pediatrics. Had a fantastic time last month at their Babies in Bloom event for pregnant women and the men who love them. And on a personal note, big thanks to Dr. Curnow for his kind care of my daughter Emma recently when she came down with strep. We’ve been going to Northpoint since Emma was born (gosh – 12 years ago next week) and I think we’ve seen every doctor in the place, and each one is just super-nice. Todd and I were watching tv the other night, and a national restaurant chain had commercial offering a free Bloomin’ Onion appetizer to military personnel. We kind of chuckled about it, like “Thank you brave soldier for risking your life to protect our country. Please accept this Bloomin’ Onion appetizer as a token of our gratitude.” Okay, so we didn’t really mean to make fun of the commercial, or the restaurant (can’t even remember which chain it was), but we thought we could do a little better than that.
That’s when we decided that what our military personnel might really cherish and appreciate is a family portrait. But by the time we thought of the idea, it was too late to do the photographs on Veteran’s Day. So here’s what we have decided to do.
We are going to devote one day to taking free family portraits of active duty military personnel. We will be scheduling these photography sessions on Thursday, January 13th. Each soldier will get a free session, and they will get their photographs on cd with full reprint rights. There is nothing to purchase, no fee to pay, no strings attached. It’s just the Severson’s small way of saying a very big “Thank You!” to the men and women who allow us to do what we love, and do it freely, in the home of the brave. God bless you all!

I was sorting through some old files tonight and stumbled across some of my favorite photographs. Most of them are a few years old, but I thought I would share them with you.

Many of you know that I was diagnosed with breast cancer one year ago this month. The anniversary of that phone call is sneaking up on us. But for me, it’s a celebration, and an opportunity to make a difference, maybe in your life or the life of someone you love.
Doctors discovered my cancer during my annual mammogram. I had no symptoms, no lumps, no family history of breast cancer.

This is a picture of my grandmother when she was a toddler. The image was badly damaged, but the retouch made it look as good as a 100 year old picture can look! If you have a special family photo you would like to have restored, click the “contact” button and we’ll chat.
