Declan’s Newborn Photoshoot | Indianapolis
Meet sweet newborn baby Declan. He was in the studio recently for his newborn photoshoot. What an adorable little guy! He did fight me a little bit when I tried to get him to hold a tiny football for his Indianapolis Colts pictures, but he finally did what I wanted. You can watch some quick video from Declan’s newborn portrait session in the digital birth announcement at the bottom of the page.
I had the chance to chat with Declan’s mom, Robyn, about the early days of parenting a newborn baby. She says baby Declan is doing well and getting very big. “He’s eating a lot. Yes. And last night we slept through the night, which was wonderful,” says Robyn. I remember those early days myself, and that first time they sleep through the night is indeed quite magical!
I love the name Robyn and Joe picked out for baby Declan. I asked Robyn how they came up with it. “I just remember back in high school I heard it somewhere and I was always in love with it,” says Robyn. “So when we found out we were having a boy I said ‘we’re naming him Declan’ and Joe just said ‘okay’.” Dad Joe picked the middle name. Baby Declan’s middle name is Stephen, which was Joe’s grandpa’s name.
If you’ve ever had a baby, you know how you think about parenting a newborn as you await baby’s arrival. But you never really know how it’s going to go until you finally bring baby home. For Robyn, it’s been easier than she anticipated. “Honestly, I feel like it has come really naturally. I have five nephews that I’ve been around since they were born so I had a lot of practice. So it’s been I don’t want to say easy, but natural.” Robyn says she’s surprised that the early days with a newborn at home have not been as stressful as she anticipated. “I thought it would be harder. It’s hard, but not super difficult. And I figured I would not know what I was doing at all, but I seem to be figuring it out.”
One of Robyn’s favorite things about baby Declan is that he’s starting to smile at her. “That has to be like, the best thing. When he wakes me up, I go to his room. I want to be mad at him for being awake. But I just go in there and he just smiles at me. That is by far my favorite thing.” One of her least favorite things? Declan wants to be held all the time! “If I don’t hold him, he cries, even if he’s sleeping. So I can’t do anything else. But that’s okay. I mean, I love cuddling with him. But I would like to be able to put him down sometimes.”
