As I work and communicate more with those in the baby industry in Indianapolis, I’ve met some really great people. One of them is Patti Crawford, CD(DONA), who owns Indy Doula Associates.

Patti founded Indy Doula Associates in 2014. As the first doula agency serving Indianapolis and the surrounding areas, Indy Doula Associates (IDA) is now a thriving source for labor, lactation, and postpartum support for Indy families. They have many doulas Patti can match you with from Mentee doulas to advanced doula support. Other services offered include lactation support, placenta encapsulation, and many educational classes for pregnancy, labor, birth, and parenting. IDA has the only Calm Birth education class in Indy! They also offer an advanced breastfeeding class and their exclusive “Baby on The Way five-week parenting series. They also have a breastfeeding drop-in center once a month as a wonderful service to the community.

 

Patti got started in 2009, upon first hearing the word “doula”. She was drawn to this amazing field after supporting her niece through her first labor and birth with a doula present. The doula asked Patti “have you ever thought about being a doula? You’re a natural”. Patti’s reply was a very clear NO! Then it happened. She laid awake thinking this is the answer. The answer to support women, encourage women, educate women to make their birth, their birth!! It was a no-brainer from there. Three short weeks later she was in a DONA workshop, five months later she was a DONA Certified doula with her solo practice “Birth By Nurture” and five years later Patti opened Indy’s first full-service Doula Agency. Indy Doula Associates. A few reasons led her to open the agency. One is having a very heavy client load and difficulty saying “NO”. That lead to the next reason, “backup doulas”. As a solo doula, it is common to reach out into the pool of doulas in the area when a backup doula is needed to attend a birth you can’t attend. Patti did this a couple of times until having a client not happy with her back up. She decided at that moment to take the leap of faith and open a doula agency where every client and potential client would actually know their potential back up. Clients would feel comfort in knowing that any attending doula is certified, experienced, knowledgeable, caring, and has been vetted through Patti because she would be representing Patti and her agency at all times.

In her business, Patti is most proud of IDA’s team of doulas! Indy Doula Associates always keeps up with current research and education to provide clients with cutting-edge information in the birthing industry. IDA is known for it’s boundless supply of resources. Indy Doula Associates has the best trained, and most experienced doulas in the city! They really have a family within a family.
