I hear it time and time again: “How did you get into boudoir photography???” For some it may seem like an unnatural progression from maternity and baby to boudoir photography, but it all happened truly accidentally. I had a pregnant momma come in for her maternity photo shoot, and she brought lingerie. And she looked GORGEOUS! And she felt SEXY & SPECTACULAR. And I thought “how many women would love to get in front of the camera, no husband, no kids, just them with all their curves and stretchmarks and beautiful imperfections and just capture the essence of who they are?” It just seemed like you shouldn’t have to be 8 or 9 months pregnant to enjoy this wonderful gift to self.
And the answer was LOTS! I never expected the kind of response I got when I first started “whispering” to a select few long-time clients and good friends that I was doing boudoir photography. At first I was afraid to tell anyone. What would people think about me doing boudoir photography?? I was already well-established as a baby, maternity, and family photographer in Indianapolis, and I was afraid that venturing into the boudoir photography world might hurt my business.
Boy was I wrong!! Since starting my boudoir photography business 10 years ago, I’ve photographed hundreds of women – and made them feel SPECTACULAR!
People frequently ask, who’s your “average” client. I’ve found in boudoir photography, there’s no such thing as average. I’ve had a 76-year-old grandma of 12, I’ve had a 21-year-old bride-to-be, lots of middle-aged mommas with stretch marks and a few extra pounds, a Catholic school teacher, a minister. All ages, all races, all shapes and sizes.
What do I love about my job??? EVERYTHING! I love seeing a woman come into the studio all shy and nervous, then leaving feeling renewed, invigorated, and REALLY GREAT about herself! I love it when a woman tells me “I’m not very photogenic” and leaves feeling beautiful. I love giving women a break from the role of wife, mom, employee and letting them get reacquainted with themselves. It’s magical! And I especially love getting those love notes from clients after they see their final boudoir photographs beautifully edited and spectacular. And when they reveal those pictures to their sweetie.
So what’s your story? Why are you here reading about me? I’d rather talk about you! Your boudoir photography session, your why, your vision. Ready to chat? You can be on the fence. It’s okay. Just give me a call or drop me an email and we’ll get to know each other. And maybe you’ll come in for a boudoir photo shoot, and maybe you won’t. And either way we can still be friends.
