Yes! Unlike many protected nature preserves where you are required to stay strictly on the paved paths, Cool Creek is completely open for creek stomping and wading. The shallow water currents, smooth stepping stones, and small sandy banks are highly accessible. This makes it a fantastic, adventurous option for seniors who want unique water elements in their images, or for families with young children who want to capture genuine, candid moments splashing around together.

When is the best time of year to see the wildflowers?

If your goal is to capture the spectacular, dense carpet of purple and blue Virginia bluebells, we will need to schedule your portrait session for early spring, specifically around April or May. If you are looking for summer flowers, those are always a bit of a gamble. Some years Mother Nature is incredibly generous and we will find beautiful, scattered pockets of wildflowers blooming along the trail edges, while other years are much lighter due to dry spells. Luckily, if the summer blooms are scarce, the towering green forest canopy and rustic wooden bridges still provide a stunning, classic backdrop.

Where can we change our outfits during the session?

Since we are shooting outdoors in a public natural park, there are no formal dressing rooms or private changing pavilions set up deep along the trails. However, the solution is very simple and convenient. The park features modern restroom facilities right by the main entrance that were added during the recent park upgrades. Alternatively, because the park sits right in the heart of Carmel, we can easily sneak into a nearby local coffee shop or restaurant restroom to let you quickly swap outfits midway through our session!

Is it hard to find a parking spot on the weekend?

The designated public parking lot at Flowing Well Park is relatively small, and it can fill up very quickly on beautiful weekend afternoons—especially during the peak summer months when local families flock to the water for afternoon creek stomping. To ensure your portrait session is completely stress-free and we are not wasting valuable daylight fighting over a parking space, I always recommend scheduling an early morning weekend shoot or opting for a quiet, peaceful weekday evening session instead.
