Baby Ada’s Newborn Photoshoot | Carmel, IN
Sweet baby Ada was in the studio recently for her newborn photo shoot. Seems like just yesterday I photographed her big sister Maren’s newborn photo shoot. But she’s a big girl now — two years old! Maren was just delighted to get her picture taken with her new baby sister. That made my job super easy! And they both are just the most adorable babies.
I talked to their mom Brittany about motherhood the second time around.
How is your newborn baby doing?
She’s doing well. She’s gaining weight, and she’s a big, big, chunky baby.
How did you come up with baby Ada’s name?
We looked at a lot of Pinterest boards. And my mother-in-law’s middle name was Lynn, so my husband liked Ada Lynn. And I liked just three-letter names, so we came up with Ada Lynn.
Anything about parenting a newborn baby that surprises you?
Yes, I have to learn to improvise. Things don’t always go according to a plan, and I just have to improvise and run with it and not get too uptight about it.
Favorite thing about being a new mom?
I like the baby cuddling. Now that I have a two-year-old, the cuddles are far and few between. So I enjoy just sitting and rocking and kissing and smelling my baby.
What’s the hardest part about being a mom to a newborn?
Sleep deprivation, probably, and having a lot less time for myself to do the thing that makes me, me.
How are the siblings adjusting to having a new baby in the house?
It was rocky at first, but she enjoys caring for her sister. She likes changing her diapers to help Mom. If she feels that she’s helping, she is more willing to do things for her baby sister.
What’s the most useful newborn baby product you have?
Probably a sound machine.
What baby product did you buy but you don’t really use?
With Maren, probably a wipe warmer was pretty pointless for us, but with Ada, I learned from Maren so I didn’t go out and buy things that weren’t useful. But I would say a wipe warmer.
What pregnancy and parenting books did you read?
I had an app with the kids called Baby Center, and that was really helpful for me while I was pregnant. And there’s also an app that I swear by called Wonder Weeks, and it talks about the neurological development of a baby and a toddler and when they go through difficult periods like when they’re waking a lot at night — it’s really spot on.
If you could tell an “about to be a first-time mom” anything, what would it be?
Don’t stress. Don’t stress about all of the things that could go wrong. And don’t listen to the horror stories that every other mother tells you.
