Meet Colt — Carmel Newborn Photography
Some babies arrive and immediately let you know they have a personality. Colt was one of those babies. He came to my Carmel, Indiana newborn photography studio with his first-time parents, and from the moment they walked through the door the love in that room was something you could feel. First-time parents have this particular kind of wonder about them. Everything is brand new. Every tiny expression stops them cold. I never get tired of watching it.
Colt was wide awake for a good portion of his session, which I absolutely loved. Those alert, eyes-wide-open shots are some of my favorites to capture because they show so much character so early. He studied everything around him with those big eyes, and more than once his parents just looked at each other and smiled. That is the kind of moment I am always trying to catch.
We started his session with a soft blue wrap and a tiny knit bonnet on a bed of gray fur. From there I moved him into a brown wrap with a matching sleepy hat tucked into a vintage wire egg basket. That combination gave his portraits a timeless, storybook quality that I find myself going back to again and again.
Next up was a rust-colored wrap with beautiful texture in a wicker basket with warm earthy touches throughout. Even in the middle of summer that warm color palette gave his portraits a cozy, rich feel. For another look I dressed Colt in a simple brown romper on a tiny wicker baby bed. I finished his individual setups with an ivory wrap in a wicker basket. Neutral and clean, with every bit of focus right where it belongs.
The family portraits were some of my favorites from the entire session. Colt’s mom and dad were naturals, and the mommy and me shots and daddy and me shots both have that quiet kind of love that makes newborn portraits worth every single minute.
